With all the media to date regarding the Primarily Primates sanctuary in Texas and a game farm in upstate NY closing, leaving the animals in conditions completely inhumane leads to a question regarding zoos vs. sanctuaries. With zoo's there are many standards to abide by, for example; most are AZA or CAZA certified. The protocols to follow are strict and routine checks are made to each facility. It seems with sanctuaries, just about anyone with proper land can start one of these. Correct me please. If the governing bodies at zoo's could stretch out to sanctuaries in North America, requiring them to abide by the same conditions as zoo's, possibly events of late could be avoided in the future. Thankfully no gorillas were involved however, many chimps are being affected. For anyone in the Texas area, Primarily Primates is looking for help of every kind ASAP. Their website indicates the address, and I have an email address available to those who would like to investigate volunteering further. The animals in this facility consists of chimps, monkeys and some large cats. Thanks and have a great day.
